Christina Maria Aguilera was born on December, 18th, 1980 on Staten Island, in New York in a family of a sergeant of the US Armed forces and a teacher of Spanish. Her father comes from Ecuador, and mother is of Irish origin. Her grandmother emigrated from Ireland. When Christina was 7 her parents divorced and Christina with her mother and younger sister moved to the house of her great-grandmother in Rochester on the suburb of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Soon Aguilera’s mother got married again. Since her childhood Christina dreamt to become a singer. She took part in many competitions and show for talents, including the competition Star Search in 1990. In 1993 Aguilera passed the casting for show of the Disney channel “The New Mickey Mouse Club”. Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell took part in the show together with her. After the show was closed in 1994 Aguilera decided to begin her solo career in pop-music. In 1998 Christina recorded the song “Reflection” for soundtrack to a cartoon film “Mulan”. “Reflection” was nominated for the Gold Globe as the best soundtrack to a film. The same year Aguilera signed a contract with a sound recording company RCA Records. Her debut album Christina Aguilera was released on August, 24th, 1999, and soon reached tops of rating Billboard 200, and world sales of the disk exceeded 21,000,000 copies. Three singles from the album —“Genie in a Bottle”, “What a Girl Wants”, “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)”— reached the first place in rating Billboard Hot 100. In 2000 Aguilera received Grammy award in the category «the best new singer». Wishing to underline her Spanish roots her next album Aguilera recorded in Spanish. The album “Mi Reflejo” included the Spanish versions of songs from her debut album and also new compositions. In 2001 Aguilera received Latin Grammy Awards for the best pop album. In October, 2000 a Christmas album of Christina Aguilera My Kind Christmas was recorded. On October, 29th, 2002 there was a second English-speaking album of Aguilera “Stripped” which debuted on the second place of chart Billboard 200 with sales of 330,000 copies for the first week. Aguilera became a co-author of 14 out of 20 songs from the album. The album received mixed reviews and more and more a sexual image of Aguilera became a subject for considerable criticism and disputes. As a result the first single from the album “Dirrty” reached only 48th place in Billboard Hot 100.
